Part of the first production batch of 57 aircraft ordered from Metropolitan-VIckers Ltd., Trafford Park, Manchester (originally ordered under Contract No. B108750/40 as Manchesters but completed as Lancasters), under Contract No. 982266/40 and built at the Mosley Road Works, Manchester. R5842-R5868 and R5888-R5917. Deliveries commenced 1-42; completed 9-42 (average rate of production, approximately 7 aircraft per month).
