Canadian Dambuster Tribute

The oil painting by John B. Rutherford which I commissioned in 1995, and entitled "Retribution" was inspired bu the words of Flight Sergeant Ken W. Brown, CGM, Royal Canadian Air Force, one of the original No. 617 Squadron (Dambuster) pilots who I had the pleasure of hearing speak at the 1993 - 50th Anniversary Dambuster Commemoration Diner in Nanton, Alberta, Canada.

"... then we ame onto the Dutch Coast and we were immediately in the area of Glize-Reijen, was was a night-fighter airfield. Pilot Officer Burpee, RCAF was about a mile and a half off to the North and they opened up on him. He blew up on the airfield. So I knew we had one less. We went on toward Hamm and I just couldn't help myself. There was a train moving along a gentle slope. So I said "OK gunners, here's where you can get your exercise and target practise. So we flew along side and took on the train...."
