The first 157 aircraft (L7276-L7325, L7373-L7402, L7415-L6434, L7453-L7497, L7515-L7526) were completed as Manchester Mk. Is. While airframes from L7420 were completed as Manchester Mk.IA’s. The final 43 airframes (see next entry) were completed as Avro Type 683 Lancaster Mk.I Deliveries commenced to the RAF on 31-7-40. L7515 was deleted from the contract after being damaged by fire.

Deliveries commenced 2-42; completed 7-42 (average rate of production: 10 aircraft per week). The first thirteen aircraft (R5768-R5780) were destroyed in a bombing raid on the works 23-12-40 and replacement aircraft were added to the end of the production batch. Many aircraft surviving in 1943 had the Merlin XX engines replaced by Merlin XXII's. 1 aircraft converted to Lancaster Ml.VI after leaving Manufacturers.

Avro Type 683 Lancaster: Initial order of four planned prototypes ordered under Contract No.B.135521/40. The first aircraft (BT308) used a Manchester airframe, modified for the installation of four Merlin X engines. The second (DG595) was to be representative of the initial Lancaster Mk.I production model. The third (DT810) had Bristol Hercules VI radial engines installed and became the Lancaster Mk.II prototype airframe. The fourth and final prototype (BT812) was never built.
